Italy – Antisemitic graffiti on the Simpsons mural at the Shoah Memorial

Milan – On the eve of Remembrance Day for the victims of the Holocaust , the mural of the deported Simpsons created by street artist aleXsandro Palombo at the Shoah Memorial in Milan was outraged with the words ‘W Hitler’ and ‘Fuck Israel’.

A year after its creation, the pop work entitled ‘Binario 21, The Simpson Jews deported to Auschwitz’, has already been defaced four times, as Palombo himself recalls in a note, giving news of the new vandalisation.

The artist had portrayed the Simpson family deported to Nazi concentration camps to tell the story of the before and after the deportation and the horror of the Holocaust . A work to raise awareness against indifference, also aimed at alerting to the danger of antisemitism in contemporary society. Just two months after its creation, the work had been defaced with antisemitic defacements, which reappeared in the following period, despite repeated cleaning works.

“Not reacting to repeated hateful actions – warns AleXandro Palomb – will lead us to normalize the danger of anti-Semitism and strengthen the evil of indifference that engulfs everything and everyone. Anyone who turns their gaze towards these massacres is complicit in the problem. The latest antisemitic insults and those of recent months will remain as testimony and an integral part of the work that will transform this sea of hatred into a tool for raising awareness and awareness against indifference and antisemitism”.
