2022 Antisemitism report in Luxembourg 

The charity Research and Information on Antisemitism in Luxembourg (RIAL)

According to the report of the association “Recherche et Information sur l’Antisémitisme au Luxembourg” (RIAL), founded in 2018, there were 76 incidents related to antisemitism in Luxembourg in 2022, a similar number to previous years.  

In most cases, it was about comparing the yellow star from the Nazi era with measures to combat the pandemic.

According to Minister of State Xavier Bettel (DP), only a small number of the incidents detailed in the report can be prosecuted. The cases from the 2021 annual report, which were pursued by the Diekirch and Luxembourg public prosecutors, were about the yellow star, which commemorates the persecution of the Jewish population during the Nazi regime, and which was misused to express dissatisfaction with the vaccination recommendations to express during the Covid-19 pandemic. Six other incidents have been prosecuted and a seventh incident is currently being investigated. 

Of the cases listed in the 2022 report, one incident has been prosecuted and another is currently under investigation. 

In 2021 and 2022, all cases in which a link was found between the yellow star and compulsory vaccination resulted in a conviction. In four other incidents, there was a final conviction, the other incidents are not yet concluded.

According to the police, a total of 76 cases of antisemitic discrimination of any kind were registered in 2022.
