Russia – The memorial to Jewish prisoners of the Rzhev ghetto damaged

Rzhev – In the city of Rzhev, Tver Region, a local resident damaged a memorial to Jewish prisoners of the Rzhev ghetto that existed during the Nazi occupation. He broke the central element of the monument – the Star of David. 

The incident was reported by the City Improvement Service. The vandal has been detained, this is an elderly Rzhevite. He could not explain to the police the motives of his act. 

The monument was erected in 2015 at the initiative of the Jewish community of the region. According to them, the ghetto existed in Rzhev in 1941-1942, its prisoners (38 people) were shot by the Nazis in June 1942.
