St. Cloud University in Minnisota has agreed to pay compenstation of close to a million dollars to Jewish members of its staff who sued the institution for racial descrimination. The plaintiffs accused the University of preventing the academic advancement of Jewish staff members, of not recognizing the teaching experience of these lecturers, of paying Jewish staff members less than their non-Jewish counterparts and of encouraging non-Jewish students not to participate in their lectures. According to the agreement, three of the plaintiffs will receive compensation to the tune of $135,000 and other plaintiffs will receive $50,000 each. In addition, the university has agreed to establish a department of Jewish Studies there.
