Berlin – Unknown perpetrators destroyed memorial plaques for Holocaust victims at the Gethsemane Church in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg last weekend.
The 20 signs were attached to the property fence on November 9th to commemorate the pogrom, as announced today by the Evangelical Church Community in Prenzlauer Berg Nord. The names of Jews from the neighborhood are on the one meter wide signs. They all lived in the area until they were expelled or deported by the Nazi regime.
“We are shocked by this disrespect for the victims,” said Pastor Aljona Hofmann. The signs will be attached to the church fence again this week, where they will remain hanging until Evangelical Eternity Sunday (November 21).
