Hamburg – Hamburg has launched a new campaign against antisemitism and discrimination. The reason for this is the spitting attack on rabbi Shlomo Bistritzky a week ago in the city center.
The poster shows a young man with beard, hat and tattooed arm. It says: Who do you see? And that’s exactly what the campaign is about, said Bistritzky in a short speech outside the town hall. Not only to see what you want to see to confirm your prejudices. “In the end we are all human. We are all human and we have to sort out in our thoughts what we see. We see what we want to see, “says the rabbi.
The campaign is under the motto “We are Hamburg” and is supported by Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD). There is anti-Semitism in open and often in hidden form unfortunately also in Hamburg, so Tschentscher. It was our job to fight antisemitism every day.
According to the prosecutor, there were already 18 preliminary investigations into antisemitism this year alone. In 2018 there were 59, the year before 52 procedures. The suspect, who spit the rabbi a week ago, has been admitted to closed psychiatry.
