Brazil – Jewish shopkeeper is attacked in Arraial d’ Ajuda, Bahia

Arraial d’ Ajuda, Bahia – A merchant of Jewish origin was attacked and had her store destroyed by a woman in Arraial d’ Ajuda (BA) . The action took place yesterday (02) and was recorded on video by the victim and shows that the attacker was restrained by a man, but caused damage and destruction in the store, in addition to verbally attacking the store owner.

Among the offenses, the attacker, who has a Spanish accent, called the businesswoman a “damn Zionist”, “a child killer” and even threatened the victim . Contained and removed from the store by two men, the attacker continued destroying the merchandise on display.

On social media, merchant Herta Breslauer , owner of the store, went to a Civil Police station to register a police report against the attacker.

According to Herta, the attacker entered the store, uttered the insults and destroyed the establishment solely because the owner was Jewish.

On social media, Conib ( Confederação Israelita do Brasil ) and Sociedade Israelita da Bahia denounced the case and considered the aggression a case of anti-Semitism and hate crime. Check out the official note:

“Conib and the Sociedade Israelita da Bahia denounce the disgusting attack against a Jewish shopkeeper in Arraial da Ajuda, Bahia, for the simple fact that she is Jewish. A cowardly, anti-Semitic attack that must be investigated as a hate crime and follow due legal process. Conib has been asking our leaders for moderation and balance so as not to ignore the tragic conflict underway in the Middle East. Anti-Semitism must be condemned by everyone, and its explosion in recent months here in Brazil and around the world is a consequence of hateful and distorted views about Israel and Jews expressed by personalities and distributed through social media. This needs to end to avoid even more serious consequences.”
