Melbourne – The families of Israeli hostages on a political campaign in Australia have been left terrified after pro-Palestine activists stormed their hotel after a function in Melbourne.

The delegation of Israelis, whose family members were taken hostage by Hamas on October 7, had shared their experiences with politicians and community members during a function last night when they were followed to their hotel in the CBD and cornered by dozens of protesters, some wielding signs and megaphones.

The Israelis, who are visiting Australia to raise awareness of their experiences, were unable to enter their rooms after the activists staged the anti-Israel protest in the lobby.

The masked protesters allegedly filed into the foyer of Crowne Plaza, where the group was staying, displaying signs that read “Zionism is Fascism”, “Stop Arming Israel” and “Free Palestine”.

The Israelis spent hours at a police station until it was deemed safe to return to their hotel.

The group travelled to Australia in the latest chapter of a worldwide campaign, meeting with political leaders to raise awareness of the plight of the Israeli hostages.
