Germany – Men insulted with antisemitic slurs in front of the hotel – three arrests

Frankfurt – In Frankfurt am Main, three suspects are said to have insulted two men with antisemitic insults.

The police arrived and arrested the suspects from Baden-Württemberg. The city’s Jewish community hopes for criminal consequences.

According to the police, two men of Jewish faith were insulted in antisemitic ways in front of a hotel the evening before. The men were guests there as part of the annual council meeting of the Central Council of Jews in Germany. The police arrested three suspects on site. They are said to have insulted the men of Jewish faith as “dirty Jews”. One of the two victims was wearing a yarmulke at the time of the crime, the Frankfurt police headquarters said on Sunday.

After the antisemitic incident in Frankfurt/Main on Saturday evening, the city’s mayor, Mike Josef (SPD), and the Jewish community of Frankfurt were shocked. “We are dismayed by the antisemitic incident and clearly condemn attacks on Jewish citizens in our city,” Josef said on Sunday. His thanks go to the police for their quick and clear action. “It’s good that the perpetrators were arrested quickly.”

The suspects are three men from Baden-Württemberg who had traveled to an American football game. Some of the men were heavily intoxicated.

The Jewish Community of Frankfurt announced that a criminal complaint had been filed and it was now hoped that criminal consequences would be drawn. “We know from historical experience that far too often words become careless actions .” This means that insults must also be countered using all legal means.
