Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin indicated on BFMTV that 1,247 antisemitic incidents had been recorded since October 7 in France, and 539 people arrested, including 154 foreigners.
Among them, 33 are in administrative detention centers, he said. The Minister of the Interior, who says he understands the “apprehension” of French Jews, affirmed that “all means” are being deployed to “protect” them.
The perpetrators of antisemitic acts are “often very young”, “often minors”, he declared on Wednesday in the Senate during the government questions session. Around twenty convictions have been handed down to date, according to a source close to the case.
