Since the Islamist Hamas attack on Israel a month ago, the Hessian police have registered a total of 380 crimes related to the war. The Hesse Ministry of the Interior said at the request of the German Press Agency in Wiesbaden that a large part of it was incitement to hatred .
“Only a comparatively small number were violent crimes such as assault crimes.”
How many of the crimes are classified as antisemitic motivated cannot yet be said. Since the terrorist attacks on Israel, the “Hessen gegen Incitement” reporting center set up in the Ministry of the Interior has recorded a fourfold increase in reports with antisemitic content compared to previous months. Since then, 350 such reports have been received; previously there were around 80 per month.
