USA – Suspicious envelope found at Seattle synagogue

Seattle, WA – Seattle fire crews responded to a possible hazardous substance reported Monday evening at a Northeast Seattle synagogue.

The Seattle Fire Department’s 911 call log showed a hazmat response to Congregation Shaarei Tefilah-Lubavitch shortly before 8 p.m. Monday. Crews investigated and determined the substance was nonhazardous, the Fire Department said around 9:30 p.m.

The synagogue is the fourth Jewish institution to report suspicious or possibly hazardous substances since Friday.

Two Seward Park synagogues received suspicious packages in the mail, each containing a white powdery substance, and Hillel University of Washington also reported a suspicious package, without a powdery substance. Police determined the packages weren’t hazardous.
