USA – Hamden synagogue receives bomb threat

Hamden, CT – Police are investigating a bomb threat against Congregation Mishkan Israel Synagogue in Hamden.

Hamden police said the threat was received via email, and the building on Ridge Road was evacuated around 9:50 a.m. The New Haven Police Department’s Hazardous Device Team searched the building and did not find any evidence of explosives inside the facility.

Activities at Congregation Mishkan Israel and their preschool were canceled as police investigated.

Police said there was no danger and will increase patrols in the area.

“Over the past few months, several Jewish facilities nationwide have received similar threats originating from the same e-mail address,” Hamden police said. “The FBI Cyber Crimes Task Force was contacted and will be investigating the origin of the e-mail.”

Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett said, “Any threat to the safety of our community is unacceptable and is taken seriously.”
