Bayport, NY – Several Bayport-Blue Point students received a disturbing surprise, after antisemitic and political fliers were left on cars near the school parking lot on Thursday, Suffolk County Police said.

The fliers were left on vehicles in the parking lot Railroad Avenue, but were determined non-criminal, police said.

Superintendent Timothy P. Hearney addressed the flyers to the community in a letter.

He stated that as a precautionary measure, additional school security personnel would be onsite at the high school on Friday.

Earlier today, students reported to our administration team, that several flyers were placed on the windshields of student cars parked off school property (Junior Island).

“Please know that the District takes these matters very seriously, and does not condone the use or promotion of hateful messages or such references,” he said. “BBP works to provide a safe, inclusive learning environment that supports the needs of all students and staff. Any reports of incidents that work against that mission are taken extremely seriously. Those found responsible for the dissemination of these flyers will be subject to strict disciplinary and/or legal action.”

He continued to write that any alarming actions such as this will always be investigated.

“All families should also know that our District will always investigate all reported,

concerning matters to the fullest extent possible,” he said. “Should you see, hear or learn of something concerning, please share that information with us immediately. As always, the health and safety of our students and staff is our top priority.”
