Germany – 16 months prison term on probation for brutal antisemitic attack

Last September, Michael T., a 60-year-old Jewish man, who participated in the “Vigil for Israel – Against Antisemitism” in Hamburg was called a “dirty Jew” and punched in the face. He was hospitalized with several fractures to his face and damage to one eye.

Yesterday, the district court in Hamburg sentenced the 17-year-old (Muslim) perpetrator to a youth prison term of one year and four months for aggravated assault and insult. The enforcement was suspended on probation. Its conditions include community service and anti-violence training.

The 15-year-old co-accused brother of the 17-year-old was found guilty of insult. He has to work through the crime in talks with the youth court and do charitable work. The judgment is not final.
