Far-right activism featured prominently in the U.S.

✓ Rising visibility of extremist groups was noted, included dozens of neo-Nazi demonstrators at the summit of a conservative organization.

Left-wing antisemitism sparked public controversies in several countries

✓ In France, public debate crystallized once again around intersectional politics, specifically around the Islamo-leftist phenomenon and the rampant antisemitism within. Polemics intensified significantly at a national level when French far-left deputies submitted a radical anti-Zionist resolution accusing the Jewish state of practicing apartheid.

✓ In Germany, Documenta15, one of the world’s biggest art exhibitions, continued to face widespread controversy over antisemitism. The director general of Documenta resigned following outrage.

✓ In the U.S., far-left antisemitism featured in several instances in local Democratic races.

✓ In the UK, a Labour Party report, commissioned following the leaking of an antisemitism dossier during the period of Corbyn’s party leadership, found “no evidence” of antisemitism being handled differently from other complaints. Jewish voices expressed skepticism at the report’s credibility.

✓ The left-wing Mexican president sparked outrage after calling a right-wing Jewish analyst “Hitlerian.”

Antisemitic incidents persist in several countries

✓ In the U.S., the continued pamphleting scourge targeted at least 15 states.

✓ In Germany, three Holocaust memorials were vandalized within less than two weeks.

✓ In Turkey, an old Jewish cemetery in Istanbul was desecrated, with 36 gravestones broken.

✓ In France, the CNCDH confirmed that antisemitic incidents decreased by 14% in 2021 compared to 2019 (589 vs. 687) but increased by 73% compared to 2020 (589 vs. 339).

 Also notable

✓ Following the crisis surrounding activities of the Jewish Agency in Russia, a number of public figures expressed fear of returning institutional antisemitism in the country.

✓ Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei took once again to Twitter to disseminate unequivocal antisemitic rhetoric. Deborah Lipstadt, the U.S. special envoy for antisemitism, denounced Khamenei’s rhetoric as “continued, egregious antisemitism.” Calls for Khamenei’s Twitter account to be shut down followed his statement; however, no action was taken.
