The Hungarian football club reacted to the antisemitic chants

On Monday, MTK beat Szeged 2-1 at home in the first round of the NB II, but the match came into the spotlight not because of the result, but because of the behavior of the away fans. A group of supporters from Szeged left the MTK stadium and its surroundings chanting antisemitic and hateful rhymes, which caused the capital club to file a complaint against an unknown perpetrator.

Szeged reacted to what happened on its official website:

Our club condemns all forms of antisemitism and racism and distances itself from the events that took place outside the stadium after Monday’s match against MTK. We will provide all the support to the authorities for the procedure related to the report filed in the case, and after its conclusion, we will impose sanctions against the involved fans within our own competence.

At the same time, in a post published on the Facebook page of the Ultras Szeged fan group, they also distanced themselves from the behavior of the “supporter known from a few sightings”.

“Our fan base condemns all forms of antisemitism and racism and distances itself from the events outside the stadium after Monday’s match against MTK.
Some “fans” from the camp of nearly two hundred people, known to us by sight, behaved in a reprehensible manner.
As in the past, so in the future we are and will remain fans of sports-like support.”
