Italy – New quantitative survey on antisemitism among high school students

The research is part of the PCTO project on antisemitism to which three high schools in the metropolitan city of Rome have joined together with Progetto Memoria and the CDEC Foundation for the school year 2021-2022.

Due to the internal dynamics of one of the three high schools, the start of the activities saw the number of schools narrow to two: a high school in the center of Rome (Liceo A) and one in Ciampino (Liceo B).
Students of the third and fourth grades, together with the referring professors, involved Progetto Memoria as external tutor (Sandra Terracina) and two departments of the CDEC Foundation (Betti Guetta and Murilo Cambruzzi for the Antisemitism Observatory; Patrizia Baldi for Didactics) to develop the project, receive training, be assisted in the analysis and reflection on stereotypes and prejudices, in particular on Jews.

Among the objectives of the project, the promotion of a cognitive process on the causes and dynamics of antisemitism, aimed at bringing out widespread behaviors and attitudes in society, in order to guide the values of a democratic and inclusive community.

The historical, sociological, psychosocial and statistical learning allowed the students to develop the activities entrusted to them. They were encouraged to interact with figures outside the school world and to manage peer dynamics in the various phases of the project.
