The antisemitic Márton Gyöngyösi was elected president of Jobbik on Saturday, the party’s press release revealed.

The new president of the party, Márton Gyöngyösi, is considered a veteran in Jobbik. He was the one who raised the issue in 2012, in the Parliament, that it is time to assess “how many people of Jewish origin who live here, and especially in the Hungarian Parliament and the Hungarian government, pose a certain national security risk” for Hungary. As he put it then: he owes Hungary such a survey. He apologized for his statements, but the scandal also echoed in the European Union, where Gyöngyösi later became a member of the European Parliament.
