Bocklemünd, Cologne – An unknown person started a fire on the outer wall of a Jewish cemetery in Cologne on Wednesday evening. State security is investigating arson. According to the police and public prosecutor’s office, “a politically motivated background cannot be ruled out”.
The unknown set the fire early Wednesday evening (May 11) around 7 pm in the outside area of the washroom at the Bocklemünd Jewish Cemetery in Cologne-Vogelsang.
The fire was quickly discovered by several witnesses, who were able to put out the erupting fire with a bucket of water before any major damage was done. “The outer wall of the building next to the entrance to the cemetery was partially covered with soot in the lower area,” the police and the public prosecutor’s office explain.
