Germany – Racist, right-wing and antisemitic attacks in Berlin 2021

Extreme right-wing, racist and antisemitic attacks are committed daily in Berlin. Only some of these acts are made public. Racism is the most common motive. For 2021, ReachOut had to document 353 attacks.

ReachOut, the Berlin counseling center for victims of right-wing, racist and antisemitic violence, recorded 353 attacks in 2021, no decrease compared to the previous year. In 2020, ReachOut had to report 357 attacks.

At least 620 people, more than ever before, were injured and threatened in the past year.

The majority of the crimes (219 cases, 60 percent) are done with racist motives, it said. 47 acts were directed against homosexuals or transsexuals , 24 cases were antisemitic , 27 attacks were aimed at political opponents. There were also 17 threats and attacks against journalists and 10 against homeless people. Among those affected were 51 children and 44 adolescents.

According to the information, most attacks were recorded in Mitte (61) and Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg (55). Neukölln (36), Pankow (35), Lichtenberg (32), Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf (26) and Tempelhof-Schoeneberg (23) followed.
