Corte Madera, CA – Central Marin police are investigating an incident in which a man was reported seen leaving antisemitic flyers on cars in Corte Madera.

A man was spotted putting the flyers on cars in the parking lot at the Town Center on Friday. He told a woman who confronted him that he had a right to free speech, police said.

The woman reported the incident to police and provided photographs of the flyers and a description of the man, who was not identified.

The flyers included antisemitic COVID-19 statements, Central Marin police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher said Wednesday. It was unclear if the incident was connected to similar reports involving antisemitic flyers in the county in recent months.

“There have been a lot of these types of events recently,” Rohrbacher said. “Our investigators are in contact with other agencies and sharing information.”

The act is being investigated as a “hate incident,” or an activity that does not have a criminal component to it. The investigation may lead to a criminal charge after the report is reviewed by the district attorney’s office, Rohrbacher said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Charlene Cunningham at 415-927-5150.

“The Town of Corte Madera condemns this incident as hateful expressions of intolerance that are contradictory to the values of our community. Incidents such as these, in any form, cannot and will not be tolerated; and, will be taken seriously,” Corte Madera Mayor Fred Cassisa said.

Central Marin Chief Michael Norton called hate speech “unacceptable.”
