Guilford, CT – An unnamed student brought a gas mask to Guilford High School and made threatening statements about harming individuals of Jewish descent in the school or community.
Superintendent of Schools Paul Freeman said in a letter to parents and guardians that there was no detailed information and no specific threats detailed in the report. He said police were immediately informed, and video footage was reviewed.
The Board of Education and Freeman were told that threatening statement were witnessed by students and that students knew the person involved. Freeman said a picture of an individual wearing a gas mask was included in the reports sent to administrators Saturday. Neither police nor administrators had the details or photograph before then, Freeman said.
The new information was passed along to police, and by Sunday morning authorities followed up on the more detailed information. All individuals involved were contacted and officials are confident that all students are safe and no specific threat exists, Freeman said.
