Canada – Three Toronto schools defaced with antisemitic graffiti

Toronto, ON – Toronto police are investigating antisemitic graffiti found at three TDSB schools.

Police have not confirmed whether all three incidents are linked but said they are exploring the possibility.

Toronto police say they responded to a call at 8:35 a.m., at Central Technical High School on Wednesday. Almost an hour later, another call came at Rosedale Heights School of Arts, police say.

The third incident was reported at Malvern Collegiate Institute, and the call came around 10:20 a.m.

Antisemitic language was found outside of these schools, and at one, on a container on the grounds of the school.

This comes a day after Regal Road Junior Public School, an elementary school, reported that its playground had been vandalized with antisemitic graffiti.

Toronto Police confirmed that they are investigating the incident.

“At this stage, there’s no evidence to suggest it is linked to the other incidents. However, officers will continue to investigate,” said Const. Laura Brabant.

In an email to the Star, spokesperson Ryan Bird said, “Nearly identical antisemitic graffiti was reported outside of Central Technical School, Malvern Collegiate Institute and Rosedale Heights School of the Arts. In all cases, this hateful vandalism appears to have occurred overnight.”

“We are working with Toronto Police to provide any assistance that we can as they continue to investigate these incidents, which are harmful and completely unacceptable on or off school property,” said Bird.

A number of antisemitic incidents have occurred at TDSB schools over the past month. On Feb. 1, two students of Charles H. Best Middle School displayed swastika. A week prior, students reenacted “Hitler’s salute” in front of classmates.

On Feb. 24, students at North York’s Pleasant Public School, reportedly performed the Nazi salute.

“These are being treated as hate-motivated and our Hate Crime Unit is fully engaged,” said Toronto police.
