Week of Memory

Russia will host the annual, eighth in a row, “Memory Week” from January 17 to February 4, 2022. This series of memorial and educational events is dedicated to the International Day of remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust on January 27th. On this day in 1945, the Red Army liberated the Auschwitz death camp.

One of the topics will also be the 80th anniversary of the Wannsee Conference, at which the leadership of the Third Reich adopted the “final solution” of the Jewish question.

This year the “Week of Remembrance” will be held for the eighth time. It is organized by the Russian Jewish Congress (RJC) with the support of the Federal Agency for Nationalities Affairs (FADN), the City of Moscow and the Holocaust Center.

Some events will take place online. But it was decided to hold the key events in a face-to-face format in compliance with all sanitary and epidemiological safety measures.

Traditionally, the main event of the “Week of Memory” will be the “Keeper of Memory” memorial evening. It will be held on January 27 at the “Helikon-opera” theater. At the evening, the award of the Russian Jewish Congress “Keeper of Memory” will be presented, annually awarded to outstanding people who have made a special contribution to the preservation of the memory of the Holocaust.

The full program of events planned both in Moscow and in the regions is published on the website memoryweek.ru. To date, representatives of more than 75 regions of Russia have confirmed their participation in the events of the “Week of Remembrance”
