Los Angeles, CA – An antisemitic letter and a bottle containing an unknown substance were found in Pico-Robertson’s synagogue on Tuesday morning, prompting an investigation into a possible case of hatred, authorities said.
Police at the West LA Station of the Los Angeles Police Department received an alarm at about 9 a.m. of items found near the Congregation Mogen David, a synagogue on 9700 blocks on West Pico Boulevard, LAPD Sgt. Anthony Bonner.
The Hazmat team responded, stating that the substance, which was not identified, “was not dangerous to anyone,” Bonner said.
Police are investigating what appears to be a case of hatred, Bonner said, adding that many details have not been concealed due to the ongoing investigation.
The letter and the threatening substance had echoes of what happened in May during the deadly fighting in the Gaza Strip. They included one in which the fight broke out outside the Westside sushi restaurant after antisemitic insults were shouted at Jewish diners.
Prosecutors filed the application Two men were charged with assault and hate crimes in the event of an attack. They are believed to belong to a group of eight people who approached a Beverly Grove restaurant and began cursing several Jewish customers before the outbreak of violence.
