Germany – Maccabi fans report antisemitic attacks during the game against Union – BZ Berlin

Berlin – On the sidelines of Union Berlin’s Conference League game against the Israeli club Maccabi Haifa in the Olympic Stadium, there were several antisemitic attacks by Berlin fans. According to Tagesspiegel information, attempts were also made to light an Israeli flag.

The two clubs met for the first time in the group stage of Group E on Thursday evening. The Berlin team won the game 3-0.
In the mixed block of the Olympic Stadium there was, among other things, a delegation of around twenty from the Young Forum of the German-Israeli Society. Several witnesses unanimously report to the Tagesspiegel of “permanent rabble” by Union fans in the relevant blocks 13 and 14.
Shortly after the first Berlin goal in the 33rd minute, Union fans are said to have pelted the group sympathizing with Maccabi with beer mugs and cigarette butts. In addition, it is said to have come to the antisemitic insult “Shit Jew”.

German fans throw up Nazi salutes as Israeli players take the field. Different tigers, same stripes.

One person concerned reports that although individual Berlin fans intervened, the group nevertheless decided to change the block and spend the rest of the game with the Maccabi fans in the guest room.
“However, four of us stayed in the mixed block, one of whom had a cardboard Israel flag with him. A Union fan then tried to set it on fire, ”says one of the stadium visitors, who wants to remain anonymous. The burning down of the flag could finally be prevented by the intervention of civil forces of the Berlin police.
1. FC Union Berlin is already reacting on Twitter to the incidents of the Young Forum of the German-Israeli Society and asked those affected to pass on block and seat numbers.
