Italy – Antisemitic writing in the park of Perugia

Perugia – “Jewish monkey” (Scimmia ebrea) was written on one side of the bust depicting the anti-fascist Guglielmo Miliocchi statue, in the gardens next to the church of Sant’Ercolano.

The work, created by the sculptors Matteo Peducci and Mattia Savini, was the first of a series of busts that the Municipality wanted to dedicate to Perugian figures of the twentieth century, and was born on the initiative of Guglielmo Miliocchi.
The vandalism was strongly condemned by the entire administration, as “it offends the Perugian community and will be the subject of a thorough investigation by the local police to reach the authors as soon as possible”.
