UK – Violence against Jewish people quadrupled in London after Israel-Gaza conflict in May

Violence against Jewish people in London reached a “worrying” level in May following escalating tension in the Middle East, new figures show.

Metropolitan Police data revealed that there were 87 incidents of violence in May – four times higher than any other month since 2018.
All the other months in three years saw levels ranging between seven to 22 incidents per month, the Met Police said.
The peak came as the conflict between Israel and Palestine escalated, leading to hundreds of deaths.
In a statement, the Met Police said: “Most recently we have seen incidents of antisemitism within the capital which have understandably caused considerable concern within our Jewish communities.
“Behaviour of this kind and abuse against any individual or group has no place in our city.
“We will not tolerate it and will act quickly and robustly in response to all reported crimes of this nature.”
