Germany – Brandenburg Ministry of the Interior: Less antisemitic crimes in the first half of 2021

According to the Brandenburg Ministry of the Interior, the number of antisemitic crimes fell in Brandenburg in the first half of the year. “Fortunately, the figures for the first half of this year are well below the previous year’s level,” said Minister Michael Stübgen (CDU) of the German Press Agency. “If this continued, there could be a decline in antisemitic crimes towards the end of the year.

According to the ministry, 976 politically motivated crimes were counted from January to June, 50 of which were antisemitic. This corresponds to a share of 5.1 percent. Compared to the previous year, around 20 fewer antisemitic crimes were registered in the first half of 2021 on average, and around 150 fewer crimes than in the same period of the previous year.
Last year, the police recorded 2,250 politically motivated crimes, of which 147 were antisemitic. This corresponds to a share of 6.5 percent. There were 15 antisemitic crimes more than in the previous year.
