Cape Town – Lecturer Lwazi Lushaba is facing an internal investigation at the University of Cape Town (UCT), after he made some awful remarks about Adolf Hitler and the Holocaust. During a pre-recorded speech, the controversial figure argued that the maniacal Nazi leader ‘committed no crime’, sparking a flurry of rage across campus.
Lushaba is no stranger when it comes to pushing buttons. His lectures on race and identity have landed him in hot water before, but these comments unquestionably blow everything else out of the water. The professor told students:
“Hitler committed no crime. All Hitler did was to do to white people what white people had normally reserved for black people.”
The incredibly insensitive claims were picked up by DA Chief Whip Natasha Mazzone. She has confirmed that the party will register a complaint with the SA Human Rights Commission, and urged UCT to suspend Lushaba in the meantime.
“We will lodge a complaint against UCT lecturer, Lwazi Lushaba, with the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) following his racist comments regarding Adolf Hitler on a pre-recorded lecture. We urge the institution’s Vice-Chancellor Mamokgethi Phakeng to place him on suspension.”

Officials from UCT have reacted to the initial furore, confirming that the incident is ‘receiving attention’. It’s now looking likely that Mazzone will get her wish, with the lecturer set to face a thorough probe from his employers. However, with these comments coming in the same week as Holocaust Remembrance Day, things don’t look great for Lushaba.
“UCT had been alerted to and notes with grave concern comments allegedly made by a staff member during an online class. All brutalities of genocide constitute both formal crimes against humanity and ongoing sources of pain. We distance ourselves very strongly from any other view. The matter is receiving attention through all appropriate channels.”
