Graz – five stumbling blocks were damaged by unknown perpetrators, as noted on Holocaust Remembrance Day (Wednesday). The stones are located in the center of the city on Kapistran-Peller-Platz near the Archduke Johann Bridge and are dedicated to members of the Jewish Silberstein family who had to flee to England and the USA from the Nazis.
“The writing was partially scratched out, and the corners of two stones are so damaged that more force and a tool were probably used,” says Daniela Grabe, chairwoman of the Association for Memorial Culture in Graz. The association filed a complaint, the police are initially investigating damage to property.
