Varel – The memorial plaque to the Jewish family Ludwig and Rosa Weiss in downtown Varel has been smeared with the antisemitic slogan “Freemason Jew – Epstein didn’t kill himself”.
With the second part of the sentence, the perpetrator took up the Epstein case in the United States. Jeffrey Edward Epstein was a Jewish American investment banker and convicted sex offender. He died in custody while preparing for the trial, according to suicide autopsy reports.
The commemorative plaque in the pedestrian zone commemorates the former owners and operators of the residential and commercial building at Hindenburgstrasse 3 (today the textile house Dieler). The couple fled from the Nazis in January 1933, but returned to Germany.
