Pittsburgh, PA – The manager of a popular Pittsburgh-area restaurant was fired shortly after an antisemitic post briefly surfaced on his Facebook page.
Stephen Guyer, manager of the Yokoso Japanese Steakhouse in The Waterfront was dismissed shortly after the eatery’s owner became aware of the post over the weekend. It contained a photo of the interior of an oven and the caption “Jewish Bunk Bed For Sale.”
The post occurred eight months after 11 worshipers were shot to death at the Tree of Life synagogue in Squirrel Hill in the worst antisemitic attack in American history. The synagogue is located about four miles from the restaurant.
Jeff Kim, the owner of the steakhouse and sushi bar that has been a top attraction at The Waterfront, apologized for Guyer’s post on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
“It is inexcusable and nothing can make up for it. Please know that his comments and views do not reflect the values of the restaurant and its employees,” Kim wrote. ” His employment has been terminated. ”
Kim stated that no forms of discrimination or prejudice are tolerated at Yokoso and emphasized that people from all walks of life are welcome there.
“Thank you for alerting us and holding our employee accountable, and continuing the fight against antisemitism,” Kim wrote. “I recognize this cannot have been easy and am sorry for any pain that his actions or words have caused.”
