Moscow – following the statements of a number of liberal intellectuals and intellectuals who called for an end to the ostentatious celebrations of Victory Day and to hold instead a day dedicated to the silent commemoration of the fallen and an honorable mention of the victors, similar to what is customary in Western countries, Dmitrii Kiseliov, director of the state news agency “Russia Today” and a television presenter who is considered a close friend of the state authorities, attacked the positions of the liberals with a clear and unequivocal emphasis on their Jewish origin.
This was stated in his weekly program “News of the Week” on the Russian state channel 1. In his speech, Kislyov said that every nation had a specific role in World War II – the Jews were, for the most part, victims, while the Russian people saved Europe and the Jews from the terror of Nazism. Kisliov noted that the number of victims of the Soviet Union was far greater than the number of victims of the Holocaust, when all the peoples of the Soviet Union fought against the Nazi invader. In saying this, he listed a number of Soviet peoples and finally remarked in a condescending and forgiving tone: “Yes, and Jews as well”.
It should be noted that Kislyov’s position on the status of the Holocaust as a minor incident during the Second World War, which completely negates Jewish heroism and the uniqueness of Jewish fighting, is entirely in line with the Soviet propaganda line of previous years. The Red Army as the sole factor that saved the Jews from Nazism, while the Jews went like sheep to the slaughter and did not fight Nazism at all and therefore owe a moral debt to the Russian people to this day.
