Teens who vandalized Chandler menorah must meet with Holocaust survivor

Three teens pleaded guilty to criminal-damage charges this
week for stealing
a menorah  display out of the front yard
of a Chandler home and turning it into a swastika

A plea deal was reached with agreement from the victims and
has specific repercussions for the teenagers.

The teens, who were charged as juveniles, have been
sentenced to serve 30 hours of community service, along with writing an apology
letter to the victims.

“In seeking justice for all
through responsible application of the law, sometimes that means employing
innovative strategies when imposing consequences,” Maricopa County Attorney
Bill Montgomery said.

As an emphasis towards education, the teenagers must also
meet with a Holocaust survivor in person and follow up with a 10-page essay on
the meeting and impact their decision had on the community.
