Homeless man accused of Stamford swastika incident sent to hospital

Robin Spearman, 58, a homeless man charged with a hate crime for
smearing a swastika with his feces outside the Rich Forum Media Center has been
sent to the hospital for a mental health evaluation after an apparent similar
incident in his holding cell.

Stamford desk Sgt. Carl Strate, who is in charge of sending prisoners to
the courthouse for their arraignments, said Spearman went to the hospital for a
psych evaluation.

Spearman, who was convicted of a 2007 armed robbery and sentenced to 11
years in jail, is being held on a $100,000 court appearance bond. He has been
charged with intimidation based on bigotry or bias, creating a public
disturbance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is expected to appear at
the courthouse for his arraignment on Friday.
