College Republicans at Central Michigan U. apologize for antisemitic valentine

The College Republicans at Central Michigan University
have apologized after an offensive Valentine’s Day card, featuring a picture of
Adolf Hitler and the words “my love 4 u burns like 6,000 jews”, was handed out
at a party hosted by the student group.

In an apology on
Wednesday, the College Republicans said that the “very inappropriate card” had
been placed in a gift bag for students attending the party “without other
members’ knowledge.” The apology said that, “as an organization,” the College
Republicans had not distributed the valentine, but the statement implied that
one of the event attendees did.

Central Michigan University on Thursday issued a statement that said in part: “Such hurtful,
offensive language, while protected by the First Amendment, is unacceptable and
is not consistent with our values and standards.”
