Labour MP Naz Shah has confirmed that she has been
reinstated to the party after she was suspended earlier this year.
Shah
was suspended by leader Jeremy Corbyn in April after it emerged that she
had shared a Facebook post in 2014 that suggested Israel could move to America,
alongside the caption: ‘problems solved.’
But she has now been reinstated after apologising directly
to the local Jewish community at a synagogue in her Leeds constituency.
Appearing at Sinai Synagogue on Sunday night, Ms Shah said
she had a direct duty to tackle antisemitism.
She said: ‘It is my job in the Muslim Community to highlight
the issues of antisemitism.
‘Going to Auschwitz is a fantastic idea but it won’t fix the
problem. We need to educate the community. It’s up to me to own the narrative.
To have conversations with the Muslim community and that’s my responsibility.’
But a decision is yet to be taken on the membership of
former London mayor Ken Livingstone, who was suspended from the Labour Party
after he attempted to defend Naz Shah by drawing parallels with Adolf Hitler.
Labour are yet to comment on Ms Shah’s reinstatement to the
party.
