2015 Antisemitism report in Denmark

This report provides a description and analysis of the number of antisemitic incidents in Denmark
in 2015. It was worked out on the basis of notification of AQVAH which is part of the Jewish Community’s security organization.

The year 2015 is particularly important because it is the year of the terror attack on the Copenhagen Synagogue. On the night between February 14-15 the Danish Jew Dan Uzan was assassinated by the terrorist Omar El-Hussein who was of Palestinian origin. AKVAH had not previously recorded any murders that were motivated by antisemitism so, as far as we know, Uzan’s death was the first time since World war II that a Jew lost his life in Denmark just because he was a Jew.

In 2015, AKVAH recorded 26 antisemitic incidents in Denmark which fall into the following categories: murder, assault and physical harassment, threats, antisemitic utterances and vandalism.

The incidents number one case of murder, four cases which can be characterized as assault and physical harassment, 7 cases of threats, 11 cases of antisemitic utterances and 3 cases of vandalism. Out of the 26 recorder antisemitic incidents 2 incidents can be defined as potentially antisemitic. In the case of one of the 26 incidents it was not possible to pinpoint the deed to a specific month.

The count of 26 antisemitic incidents in 2015 means that in 2015 there were 28 incidents less as compared to the year 2014. Consequently, in 2015 there were 50% less incidents than in 2014.
