Damage to the Hertzel plate at Kreuzberg

Kreuzberg, Berlin – at the Marine Square at Kreuzberg, the
exhibition “in the way of vision” is held these days. On the exhibition,
plates struck in the ground, on which quotations are engraved, of
famous people from the countries that are UN members. Each plate bears the flag
of the country from which the famous quoted person is from.

The author and thinker of political Zionism, Theodor
Hertzel, was chosen to represent Israel. On November 9th
people have discovered that vandals broke the glass cover and tore the Israeli
flag intentionally. This act of damaging the flag expresses the desire to deny
the right of existence from the state of Israel. Doing it close to the date
of the Reich Pogrom, reinforces that concern. The assumption  that this is an
antisemitic driven act relies on the deliberate corruption of the plate and the
choice of that symbolic date to preform it.
