In the last report of ÖECRIsterreich, the
European Commission along with the ZARA organization expresses a sober opinion
against Racism and Intolerance of the Council of Europe (ECRI):
Despite some measures and focused legislative amendments taken, the ability to
act against racism in Austria
is still limited.
Thus,
unequivocal prohibition of discrimination, for example, is missing on all
government levels, the legal framework of prosecution for racist acts is
lacking and the Internet lacks regular monitoring of hate speech.
The
commission adopts therefore ZARA’s requirements amongst others, and recommends
the prohibition of discrimination on all levels, such as laws that allow
prosecution for acts of racism.
