Notre-Dame-de-Grâce , Montreal – Parents of children who attend the Royal
Vale school in NDG (Notre-Dame-de-Grâce), many of whom are Jewish, were shocked
to find that a sign identifying the Westhill Sports Centre at the corner of
Somerled and Royal had been vandalized with a star of David and the word
“Crips.”
On Wednesday morning, NDG residents dropping off their children at Royal
Vale school passed the sign to the sports centre and many expressed surprise to
see a large star of David spraypainted on the sports centre sign.
The Crips are one of the largest and most violent street gangs
in the United States, who have been involved in murders, robberies, drug
dealings and other crimes. The gang used to be known for the use of the colour
blue (which may explain the blue paint used in the vandalism). The sign may be
an attempt to allege that Jews are part of, or control, the Crips but more
likely it was painted as a supposed Crips symbol.
