Antisemitic graffiti

Snowdon, Montreal – Several
Jewish residents living around Macdonald Park in Snowdon awoke Saturday morning
to find swastikas, KKK markings and other slurs on cars, businesses and
buildings.

The surrounding area — which includes the suburb of Hampstead — is
largely Jewish.

Laurent Benatar still drives around with the swastika on his silver
Dodge Caravan — he says he gets plenty of odd looks, but says that’s exactly
the point.

“I want people to
know,” Benatar says. “Some people, often, are traumatized. I don’t
want people to be traumatized. I want people to be informed.”

Benatar saw all manner of graffiti in his neighbourhood and not all of
it was anti-Semitic. He says an Asian business was targetted and racially
charged words defaced nearby buildings.

Benatar says he filed a complaint with Montreal police, who are
investigating.
