Brooklyn, NY – Three people are charged with beating a Hasidic
Jew in New York City in an attack that police are investigating as a hate crime.
According to the station, Ruben Werczberger, 38, was driving to his
Borough Park home on the night of Tuesday, Nov. 11 when he got into a
fender-bender in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn.
While surveying the damage, investigators say three people on the
sidewalk who had nothing to do with the accident attacked Werczberger, an
orthodox Jew who wears a beard, side curls and a yarmulke.
The alleged assailants, two of whom are women, reportedly smashed
Werczberger’s windshield with a two by four.
Werczberger captured video of the attack on his cell phone. In it, the
38-year-old is heard telling one of the assailants that they will be arrested.
They are heard replying, saying they don’t care.
Investigators say the suspects stole Werczberge’s phone and fled the
scene, but GPS tracking and a tip led police to a house a block away where they
arrested Linda Gonzalez, Cindy Colletti and Vischal Budhram.
Werczberger did not suffer any serious injuries.
