Wanne-Eickel – Ahead of the memorial ceremony to
commemorate the Kristallnacht pogrom in 1938, a memorial plaque at the site of
the old synagogue in town was defaced.
Local workers discovered the damage a
few hours prior to the ceremony.
The mayor, Horst Schiereck, denounced
the defacement of the memorial plaque in the harshest terms.
