Rabbi of Gateshead beaten by 4 teens in antisemitic attack

Gateshead  – A rabbi was
hospitalized after being beaten by four teens in an unprovoked antisemitic
attack, police in the United Kingdom said.

Gateshead Police said that they have charged the four teenagers in
connection with the assault on the local rabbi.

The 40-year-old victim was attacked while leaving a yeshiva in the
center of the largest Orthodox Jewish community in Bensham.

The incident unfolded on Rydal Street in the early hours of Friday
morning.

19-year-old Qaiser Malik, and
18-year-old Balawal Sultan, both of Newcastle, and a 16 and 17-year-old man,
were charged with racially aggravated assault.

They were brought before the South Tyneside Magistrate’s Court for bail
hearings.

Northumbria Police are also investigating a racist tweet in connection
with the incident. The tweet shows a picture of what was described as a Jewish
primary school and the message: “This Jewish school in Gateshead cheered
when the bombs fell in Palestine.”
