Detroit – Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan has appealed
for solidarity between black Christians and Muslims, while blaming Jews for
fostering division among blacks by smearing the reputations of those who
threaten their economic interests.
Farrakhan made the comments Sunday during his two-hour keynote Saviours’
Day address at the movement’s four-day convention in Detroit.
He says black people need to find the “common thread” among
past leaders as diverse as Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Booker T. Washington
and W.E.B. DuBois.
He says “all of them” shared the goal of fighting for the
liberation of black people.
Acknowledging that majority black Detroiters chose the white Mike Duggan
as their leader, Farrakhan says the city’s new mayor needs to help resurrect
the city’s blighted neighborhoods and not just promote its reviving downtown.
