Clear messages from Bayern against the Right

The
team that won triple victory, commemorated this week the Holocaust day with the
initiative “Never again”. The main figure featured in the ceremony was Kurt
Landauer, Bayern’s former Jewish president. On Sunday, a documentary about
Bayern’s honorary president, who died in 1961, was broadcast.

“He
is a role model for all young people,” said Bayern’s president, Uli Hoeness,
praising his predecessor. He was a man with lofty values and he occupies a
central place in the history of the club. He took action to bring about
cultural change in this club”, said the chairman, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

Charlotte
Knobloch, president of Munich’s Jewish community, heaped praise on the Bayern
team for its efforts in the combat against antisemitism, racism and xenophobia.
Inter alia, the club also has preserved Landauer’s memory. “FC Bayern granted him what he deserved,” said Knobloch. She would wish that
“the other clubs in Germany reflect upon the past like FC Bayern has been
doing.”

The
documentary, in which Uri Segal, Landauer’s nephew, participated, and a film
about Landauer were produced by Bayern Radio. The film will be broadcast in
Germany during 2014.
