Monument commemorating the Holocaust victims defaced again

Salzburg – For the second time
in recent weeks, the monument in the city cemetery, which commemorates the
Holocaust victims, has been defaced. The monument “In memory of the victims for
freedom and human dignity” was defaced during the weekend and the name of Horst
Mahler, an extreme right activist, was sprayed on it.

In December, the name of the deceased SA leader Horst
Wessel, who died in 1930, was sprayed with the use of black varnish. According
to Herman Rechberger, Director of the State Office for the Defense of the
Constitution, the perpetrators are the same ones. The writing and the nature of
the damage are quite similar.
